The engine purred, filling the silence that consumed the car interior. Since the night at Austin’s bar, it was like Kate had relapsed – back to being afraid of every bump in the night and unable to be left on her own for longer than a few minutes. The vivid nightmares returned; cool blue eyes piercing through her flailing disposition as strong hands squeezed the delicate cartilage of her throat.
