DAMON AND CARLY The doorbell echoed over the music. Carly came in from the backyard, her hands dark with the soot from cleaning off her fathers grill. It felt like it hadn't been used in ages. It was a little early for the guests to be arriving, Carly thought as she hurried to answer the door. Any other time she would have to bother Kahlan for the pass code, but Kahlan had entrusted her with the four digit code. 0017. She swung the door open, ready to greet whomever it was with a smile. THE GROUP "Party!" Christian yelled obnoxiously, with two packs of beers in his hand. Justin followed behind with a bag that contained a bottle of Vodka. They both stopped in their tracks when they saw an older man on the grill. Damon stared at the half naked boys, and they stared back. "Who are you?" "I'm Damon Meir....Kahlan's therapist." Chris looked. Why didn't fireball warn us, he thought. He lowered the beers down to the ground, then adjusted his green and orange swim trunks , as he thought of something to say. "Well, those aren't beers." Damon stared at them for a few moments, face serious, and then he let out a chuckle. "Hey, as long as I don't see it, I don't know it exists." Christian chuckled. THE GROUP Carly stared Ashley in the face as she talked about James and Brooke and their secret affair. She hadn't known long, but enough time had passed that she should have told Carly. Carly did remember little things that Ashley would say, trying to drop hints. Of course, she also could have picked a better time. Ashley did decide to spill the beans quite loudly, in the middle of a crowded lunchroom. Everyone knew now. If Carly was being honest, it was quite embarrassing. "It's alright Ashley," Carly began, "I mean, it isn't but I forgive you. You at least told me. I'm sure neither James or Brooke were going to. I mean, they kept it to themselves for quite a while; they probably figured they could keep it that way forever." Ashley's eyes then wandered behind Carly, into Kahlan's home. JAMES Damon and James stood tall, facing each other, their body language somehow showcasing their strength. This felt like a showdown. "You found your way, you can find your way out," Damon growled. "I'm not leaving until I talk to my girlfriend." Carly then appeared at my side, looking scared out of her mind. I felt her hand grab mine. She was freezing. I stepped slightly in front of her. "She doesn't want to talk to you," I said, "so leave." He looked over at Carly, eyes softening. He was a really good actor. "Please, I just want to talk." Carly knew he wasn't going to go away. And if by some miracle he did, he would come back with a vengeance. She let go of my hand and walked up to James. "We can talk right here," She said bravely. He leaned in slightly. "Come on. Just come out with me," He pleaded, so only she could hear his words clearly. "If you don't, I will get my hands on that pretty little friend of yours and I don't mean in a good way." DAMON AND JAMES "What do you think you're doing?!" Damon bellowed, grabbing James by his large shoulders, startling him as he was pulled away from Carly. Carly had fallen to the ground, feeling the hard concrete at her finger tips, heaving and coughing as her lungs refilled with air. The two men went running at each other. I made my way around the fighting boys, over to Carly. Her vision was making its way back to normal. I was at her side; hand on her back, eyes on her face. She stared back up at me when her coughing had ceased and together we turned our attention to Damon and James. Damon threw a right hook at James, striking him in the face. I brought Carly into my arms, slightly pulling her back to be sure that we wouldn't be in the way. Somehow, James had gotten the drop on Damon. KAHLAN AND DAMON "Yeah mom," Damon responded to his mothers call, eyes staring into the darkness of Kahlan's backyard, "I'm going to be working a lot. Yeah. Alright mom, get some sleep. I love you too. Good night." He hung up the phone, setting it beside a pile of unopened mail on the dresser. I lay in bed, under the covers, waiting for him. He closed the bedroom door and removed his shirt, climbing into the bed beside me. I looked ahead, while he stared at me. "What did you want to talk about?" I took a deep breath before facing him. "Ryan Wingo," I answered. "I'm ready to talk about him." I paused, waiting for his response before I continued. He gave a nod, indicating he was ready to hear me. "I met him like two years ago. Ryan was great. He was corny, romantic...just about everything I wasn't. Things were great for a while, I even gave him my virginity." BROOKE AND ELLA "How do you feel this morning?" Ella asked her daughter, seeing her applying her makeup in the bathroom. Ella overlooked her daughter's overly small shorts and tight V-neck. "Better." Brooke answered, glancing over at the small woman. "Yeah? That's good." Brooke stared into the mirror. What was her mothers problem? Any other time when Brooke came down with something, Ella was nowhere to be found, and now, here she was, checking up on her every few hours. "Hey mom, did Damon take off already?" "He never came home last night," Ella answered, eyes still on Brooke, as if examining her. "I talked to him last night. He said he was going to do a little work at the office." Wasn't that interesting? "So, do you want to tell me what happened yesterday? Damon mentioned that a friend of yours was arrested." Brooke gave a nod. KAHLAN I stood at the edge of the swimming pool, looking at my reflection in the water. Another problem just fell into my lap. Someone was out to kill me, or so they vowed. Carly hid herself in the room. She felt guilty, that much I knew. Damon left to go check in on his family, making the promise that he would be right back. Trouble always seemed to find me; with that said there was something else rattling my mind. The pictures started up again, but Ryan was in prison, so who else would be sending them? Justin peeked through the wooden fence on the side of Kahlan Redding's house. There was a side ally that he had used a few times to take a short cut to school when walking. Tonight, he was using it for a whole other purpose. With everything with James spiraling out of control, he just wanted to peek in to be sure that the girls were okay.
