I knew that this letter would change everything, that there would be no turning back once I left it behind. It was a farewell, a final goodbye to the man who has saved me from damnation, the man who has ignited a passion I never knew I had, but right now I didn't want the salvation being with Matteo offered, I wanted freedom. So even though my entire body begged for me to tear the letter up and go back to sleep, I knew that wasn't what was best for me.

I lightly touched Matteo's hair, for the last time feeling the texture of his silky strands. He slept soundly, not even noticing my touch. I left the note on the nightstand. I wanted to peck him but I didn't want to risk waking him up.

I raked my closet finding something appropriate, I settled for a gray sweatpants with a matching sweatshirt, I tied my hair in a loose ponytail and paired it with a black sneakers. It wasn't about looks but comfort. I was preparing myself for a cold and unfavorable night.
