ALMOST DIED

I reached for the gun in my pocket, pausing as Jake's shrieks increased. She grabbed a handful of his shirt and pulled him to a wall. Jake started struggling in her grip as she was trying to hit his head against the wall. His face was a total mess, his hair was rough, and his nose was bleeding.
