Chapter 6: Broken Trust

“Wallermen?” I asked, I was still not able to see his face.

“After all, you remember my name, huh?.” He scoffed.

“I remember everything.” I spatted back.

“Yeah? Where were you when you thought of running away alone, huh? Where was I? Did I not matter to you? Did our friendship not matter to you?” He pulled the gun.

Flashback

In jail:

I was sitting handcuffed in my cell after the custody. No lawyer stood up for me when I told them I shot George out of jealousy that he was a great businessman. No Lawyer wanted to take my case up so that it doesn’t affect their reputation if they lose.

They knew I’d lose as George was a reputative, loyal and wealthy businessman. Even my own wife and son refused to join me in the court when they got to know about what I did. No one except for Honoria knew my feelings towards Mariam.

I saw a man being thrown inside my cell. He looked as if he was high. I ignored him and when I turned to look at him, he was smoking a cigarette.

“You want some?” He offered me the cigarette.

“No Thanks! I don’t smoke.” he put his lips to the cigarette and took a drag of it.

“How did you end up here?” He asked.

“Murder, you?”

“Drug dealings.”

I nodded. “I’ll run out of here eventually. They cannot capture an eagle inside a cage.”

“Take me with you.” He chuckled.

“Sure.”

“Wallermen” He said, forwarding his hand.

“Jared Gilbert.” I said, shaking his hands.

Present

“It does matter!”

“Then why did you leave me?” He put the gun in his back pocket and held me by my collar and I could clearly see the rage in his eyes. His breath fanned over my cheeks.

“I had my daughter behind.” I said holding his collar.

“And I had family to feed” He punched me in the cheek and I collided with the ground. I touched my lips as it was burning. I looked at my finger, which had blood. And I gave Wallermen a death glare.

“Oh, don’t act like you didn’t deserve it.” He forwarded his hands and I took it to stand. “I trusted you, Jared.”

“I know, but I couldn’t let my daughter live without me, she had no one.”

“Why did you kidnap your own daughter?”

“That’s none of your business to know.”

“Do you ever regret it?”

“Quite a few times.”

“How did you even go to sleep even after knowing that you left me?”

“I’m sorry, okay? But I won’t let you down this time. You can trust me, let’s work together and get everything back in place.”

“I’m surely gonna destroy your son. He was the one who let the cops know I smuggle drugs.”

“I want the same for him. We are in this together, Wallerman.” I said pulling out my hand in forward.

“I’m trusting you, don’t make me regret it” He shook hands with me.

“When did you come out of jail?”

“Tonight only.” He said and continued breaking the silence. “I need to go back to my home, my family. I should meet them.”

“Sure.”

“By the way, what have you planned for Jackson? How are you gonna destroy him? You must have thought about it since you’re saying you want the same.”

“I do. But I ain’t gonna do it, you’re gonna do it. You will take your revenge from him, and I will take my business from him.”

“You wouldn’t kill him on your own? Besides that’s really not your business he made it from the ground. The fact he uses his mother’s name and not yours, proves it.”

“First of all, don’t run into my family matters. Second of all, who told you that he wouldn’t die in my hands?”

“What are you planning on doing?” He asked, smirking.

“You’ll know.”

He nodded “Goodnight.”

“Night.”

—-

It’s my daughter’s birthday today. I decorated the house all night and woke her up.

“Happy birthday, Princess Jasmine.” She opened her eyes and I took her into my arms.

“Thankyouu Daddy.” She squealed in happiness when she saw the room fully decorated.

We celebrated her birthday as usual, talking all day, watching barbie movies, at night. We ate her favourite food for dinner which is Pasta, cut the cake and then she slept in my arms.
