Chapter thirty Six

KOREY

Today is Saturday, so my friends and I are planning to go surfing and then prepare for a party. However, our plans are disrupted when Harlan shows up unexpectedly. Gage is frustrated and wonders how she knew we would be here. Harlan approaches us and asks if we forgot about her. Kasey expresses his annoyance and questions who invited her. I realize that Harlan must have been watching us, which angers me. Gage comments on Harlan's self-centered attitude, and I agree with him. As Harlan approaches us, I try to come up with an excuse to leave. I told her that we thought she would want to rest for the party later, but she insisted on joining us. We politely decline and say we want it to be a surprise for her and her girlfriends. Harlan swims off to join the other girls, and Kasey grumbles about her getting too much sun. I urge Kasey to leave before we get into trouble, but he defends his comments, saying he's just speaking his mind.
