Natalie sat back on the couch and held her head in her hands, her heart aching more than anything she'd ever felt.

He still didn't get it.

Maybe he never would.

And maybe she was insane for wanting to be seen as more than just a damsel in distress. But his words, and knowing he saw her as nothing but a helpless victim who had to be rescued, left her deeply gutted.

"I'm not the girl you save, Levi," Natalie whispered. "I don't need you to keep rescuing me."

"I'm sorry, but you don't get to tell me what I should and shouldn't do where my heart is concerned," Levi said. "Colleen's disappearance is tied to Dreams, and I can't risk the same thing happening to you—"

"Well, I'm not Colleen!" Natalie groaned in her hands. "You can't keep making me out to be this helpless victim, and you have to constantly swoop in and play the hero."

"I'm not playing the hero!"

"Yes, you are," Natalie insisted. "The moment you decided I had to be rescued and saved and protected, you wrote yourself as the hero
