When Elaine got home later that night, Carlos was sleeping on the couch but he opened his eyes when he sensed her presence, "you are back."
"Yes, and you look so tired. Did farmer Ben stressed you a lot?" She chuckled."Let's just say that I have not done a work like that in my life before but it's okay. It was fun being around him and he told me a lot of Folktown stories, so I won't be visiting your library anytime soon."Elaine laughed, "that's a good thing I guess. I'm glad you found farmer Ben fun, he is one of my dad's friends that I'm so grateful of having.""He is a nice man.""Yes" she smiled at a distant memory "well, since it will be morning soon, I will leave you to take your rest to regain your strength, you will be needing it tomorrow."Carlos chuckled lightly "sure I will" he sighed but when she meant to enter her room, he called her back "Elaine, I was thinking, now that I have found a job, I don't know what I will be doing with my income, so how aboElaine went into the room to drop her purse which had been lying around on the couch but unfortunately, Carlos didn't close the bathroom door and she chanced upon him. Her eyes gawked at his naked body and she followed the water down his body with her eyes. Carlos turned around then and their eyes met, Elaine knew she should look away but she couldn't get her brain to send the signal. It was a single lantern that lit up the room and so only a little beam of it entered the bathroom, which means that part of Carlos body was hidden in the darkness but she was still able to make out his body in the shadows. After tracing his body with her eyes, she looked up to his face to see that he was still looking at her. There was something in his eyes, something like desire or lust, she can't say. She felt her face hitting up but she still couldn't look away.Carlos stepped out of the bath and walked up to her. She gulped as he approaches, their gazes locked together. Her heart beating loud
Elaine opened her eyes at the sound of little murmurs, she was shocked to see Tom beside her and details of last night flashed in her mind. She gulped as she watched him sleep, he looks so handsome and not only that, his personality is amazing. He is caring, a good listener, loving, so why won't she fall for him? Why won't he claim her heart? Her fingertips traced his flawless face, so handsome. Her eyes trailed down his body, his broad chest, his biceps, his muscular torso, his strong and long legs. He strong arms she could depend on to catch her if she falls. Just why is he not hers? Why didn't he meet her first before anybody? She shook away the thoughts, no negative thinking. What they had last night was amazing and she can't wait for him to wake up and look at her with his midnight blue eyes, the eyes that seems to captivate her very soul. She knew he feels something for her with the way he handled her last night, she just have to wait for him to tell her so.What i
Elaine went back to the house when she was sure Tom won't be at home again. She went into the room and realized he fetched water like he does every morning and she felt a pang of guilt that he had to leave to do his heavy work on an empty stomach. But, it's for the best. The lesser she sees him, the better for her.She sluggishly prepared for the library and left when she was ready. She strolled down the streets with her head hung low. What could Thomas be thinking now? Does he remember his dream and knows now that he has a daughter? If he doesn't, then should she tell him? She heaved a deep sigh and continue with her walk."Hey Elaine, wait up" someone called and she turned to see her friends not friends running towards her. One was light haired and the other dark haired, they are the twins of Ian and Margret Foster, Acacia and Alicia "is it true?" The dark haired one asked when they caught up."Oh my God, he is so dreamy" giggled the light haired who is Alicia."Is wha
The day was Sunday, Tom will be back in the night but after taking the day he left and three extra days to think, she still doesn't want to meet him. Although she knows it will be unavoidable from now on, she still has to try. Maybe it's time to pay her mom a little visit. She groaned when she thought of what she was putting herself into by visiting her mom, but it's okay, she can live with it for a day or two, she can't say. She picked up her handbag and left the house. The long evening stroll was what she needed. It calmed her nerves and it reminded her of one of the reasons she loves Folktown. It's calmness at night and the chilling breeze, the flowery scents coming from the houses of those who owns a garden which always reminds her of her dream to have one but too bad, the soil at her place was not good for planting. She got to know that after trying five times but all her flowers and plants died before germinating. The night was still young and has a romantic vibe to it.
"Elaine, won't you be going to the library today?" Elaine heard her mom's voice coming from downstairs and she groaned. She had fallen asleep early in the morning and it felt like she had just closed her eyes before her mom's voice woke her up. She covered her ears with the pillow and tried to sleep more "Elaine Jackson, you need to be punctual with your work. Get your lazy ass off that bed now" Amelia didn't give up.A low groan left Elaine's lips once more as she opened her eyes, she knew her mom won't stop shouting until she sees her so she got out of bed and left her room. She grabbed the stairs handrails and glared at her mom who was standing at the foot of the stairs "I'm up, now what?""Won't you be opening the library today?"Elaine rolled her eyes and went back to her room. As much as she doesn't want to listen to her mom now, she knew she was right so she entered the bathroom and took a bath with the water there. She dressed up after the bath and it was when she r
Carlos silently made his way to the farm. He avoided going in to greet Lucy and went straight to the barn where he removed his shirt and started stacking the hays. No matter what, he had to keep himself busy to avoid thinking too much. That's if one will call, working absentmindedly not thinking too much.He was lost in thought that he didn't know when Lucy entered the barn, she smiled to him and walked closer "Tom" she called but he didn't answer, she reached out her hand to touch his sweaty shoulder and he jumped, his eyes on hers in a vigilant way that she felt herself flinch from his intense gaze "are you alright?"Carlos breathed out in relief when he saw it was her "I'm sorry Lucy, I didn't hear you enter" he apologized."I know" she nodded, her eyes not leaving him. Carlos turned his back on her as he continued with what he was doing "what's the matter Tom? You shouldn't be here. I'm sure Ben was not expecting you to work today because he himself fell on the
Elaine walked back to her family home at the end of the day, something tells her Tom is waiting for her but she is not ready to face him yet. Her little encounter with him at the library today was still fresh in her mind. The hurt in his voice still fresh in her heart. She pushed the thought of him away from her mind as she got to her family home. She pushed open the door, not expecting to see her mom home yet and closed the door gently after her. She walked up the stairs to her room, wanting to take a long bath to ease her nerves. She opened the bathroom and thank the stars that little Joshua, their neighbour, Mila's son fetched the water as always. She often wondered what her mom will do without him always there to help her.She took off her clothing and soaked herself in the cold water that seems to be what her body needs. She tied her hair in a bun and closed her eyes as different memories fought to be the first she remembers. She started by the night she first saw Tom,
When they got inside, Carlos closed the door behind him, Elaine walked forward and dropped her bag on the couch before turning to face him. He was just standing there, his back resting on the shut door, his arms crossed on his chest, his midnight blue eyes watching her intently, the lantern placed beside his right foot with the light casting a faint shadow on his face, making him look like a night god.She took in a deep breath and closed her eyes, she opened her eyes as she let out the breath, "I think we should talk."Carlos smiled faintly to the floor, "yes, but are you up to it now? We can leave it tomorrow.""No" she shook her head "it has to be now. You deserve to know the reason I'm avoiding you" she sighed "which have been very difficult.""Elaine...""Tom" she interrupted "I don't know why this is happening or why it happened but I'm glad it did, at least, it stopped me from delving deeper.""What are you talking about Elaine?"She sniffed and closed he
