I walked through the hallways in silence, letting it sink in for the moment as I trailed to my private office.

Opening the door, I stopped in my tracks as I met his gaze.

Nathan was waiting for me on the other side but I had already expected it. Even before stepping into the door I could already hear his heartbeat. He stood beside my desk, hands folded and eyes glaring.

I stepped in, shutting the door behind me in a resigned motion.

“Alex,” his voice rang amidst the silence.

I could hear his lecture coming a mile away. Nathan, my beta and brother in all but name, was always one who tried to hold me accountable. He'd been, more often than not, the voice of reason and the only one that could ever tell me no.
