Chapter 34

Rose sat nervously in the court's waiting room, fidgeting with her fingers. She was dressed in a simple black dress and had put on minimal makeup. She looked around the room and saw several couples, some holding hands, while others sat with their lawyers, looking tense.

Rose's lawyer, a middle-aged man named Mr. Johnson, walked in and sat next to her. "Are you okay, Rose?" he asked, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

Rose nodded, "I just want this to be over with."

Mr. Johnson nodded and looked at the paperwork in front of him. "We have a strong case, Rose. Sammie has not contested the divorce, and we have plenty of evidence to prove that he was an abuser."

Rose's eyes watered, and she tried to hold back her tears. She didn't want to show any weakness in front of her lawyer.

Just then, the courtroom door opened, and the judge entered, followed by Sammie and his lawyer. Sammie looked disheveled, and his eyes were bloodshot. He looked at Rose and quickly averted his gaze.
