Trial By Fire

I swallowed, trying to take in the information. If the police had an arrest warrant for me then that meant that they must have gotten additional evidence.

But again, I had nothing to do with Mitch’s death! Hell, I was traumatized by it!

“Did you contact my husband?” I asked her, not knowing exactly what to do or say, so I just went along with whatever came to my head.

The car started to move again, the traffic light was now green. “Um…we tried to do that but we could not. I think he was busy. So, for security reasons, the team was thinking that you try to get to Mr. Kingston as soon as you can.”

“Yeah, yeah, of course.”

“We were going to approach you about this but we did not want to be abrupt, it’s still early.”

I forced a chuckle even though my heart was pounding. “Nonsense,” I said playfully. “It’s about me getting thrown in prison. To hell with abrupt!” I laughed, but it was yet again forced.
