Dark History

“Hey Kitten, what did your Dad say?” He pats the floor next to him.

Walking over, I sit down, holding one of the toys. “Not much. He’s coming down. He said he doesn’t want to do it over the phone, which means it is something bad.”

His arm wraps around me. “You got through it already. Finding out what happened is not going to hurt you now.  Go get some work done. I can’t wait to see your business up and running.”

Maybe working will help keep my mind off it until my Dad gets here so, reluctantly, I walk upstairs to the office. My mind is wondering about everything. My eyes blankly stare at the wall. The door opens. Turning my head to see who it is, I see my Dad standing there.

Have I really been sitting here doing nothing for that long? My body instantly jumps up and runs to him, my arms wrapping around him, embracing him. I have missed his scent. I have missed my Dad.
