"Poppy...is your daughter?"

I know it's a lot to take in, but since he knew I'm a woman and it didn't bother him much that I had lied about it, maybe telling him about Persephone was the right thing to do—the expression of this shocking surprise I anticipated.

"Yes."

Using the blanket to cover my naked body, I sat up and leaned against the headboard. I wasn't ready to explain, but now I know I can trust Seth; I have nothing to worry about. Right?

"If she's your daughter," Seth sat beside me. "Then, with your age and her age, you must have her when you..." I watched his eyes grow wide as he solved a math problem.

"Yes, I had Poppy when I was thirteen," I say, calmly though it's a bit young for a girl who doesn't know anything about motherhood when I was abandoned by my own.

"Does she know?"

I shake my head and pull my legs under my chin, hugging them. "No, and I'm not ready to tell her. Not yet."
