We ran for a while until it finally felt safe enough to stop. My leg was throbbing as we slowed and I sat down to try to get a look at it. They must have shot me.

I reached my hand back to find the hole the bullet went in, but there was nothing there. No blood, no gaping hole, nothing. Frantically, I looked for the only other thing it could be. Nathan was standing in front of me, favoring his right hind leg.
