Chapter 13

I was silent the whole time we’re eating breakfast. Every time I swallow food, it gets stuck in my throat. I don’t know why I feel frustrated, hurt, and confused while seeing Kadmiel laugh comfortably with this woman.

“Last night, Alliana needed…”

“Kad.”

I stared at Alliana as she blankly stopped Kadmiel from telling the story of what really happened last night that made her sleep in here. Her eyes turned to me and smiled. I can’t decipher her smile, whether it’s a smile for good or the other way around.

“I’m not… ready to tell it to someone I barely know,” she started. “But what I assure you, Katriel, is that I’m a good friend of Kadmiel. We’ve been friends for so long. Nothing less… nothing more. You have nothing to worry about my existence.”
