Vera was in one of the rooms, reading. Antoinette was still recuperating, and she didn’t want to leave just yet. She needed to make sure that Antoinette was safe first, especially since her mate wasn’t around.

She decided to check in with him. “Love.”

“Yes, my love?” he replied almost instantly.

“Are you ok? Is everything ok there?” she asked.

“It’s as ok as can be. I’m having breakfast with the newly mated lovebirds. We haven’t seen Spunky or the Queen this morning,” he informed.

“Isn’t that suspicious?” she followed up.

“There’s a lot that’s happening that’s suspicious here, but I’m not questioning anything just yet. For now, I’m simply observing,” he replied.

She understood what he was getting at. “Any new developments with Cally?”

“We’re going to the library later, so we’ll see if anything changes. You know her emotions are supercharged in situations like that,” he pointed out.
