The Arrival

KEANNE

I occupied the back seat of the limo, my head rested backwards. I wasn't sure what to expect of a sudden trip to my origins, but one thing I was sure of was how much I would miss my life here. I knew enough to know the girls there were untouchable, waiting on the red string of fate to appear and lead them to their mates.

I, of course do not believe in any of that. Soulmates, mate bonds, they all seemed like a far fetched dream, especially since I fell in love with the little vixen Kiara and she ran off with my former best friend.

And even worse, how I watched my father and my mother.

"Is dad out yet?" My voice was gruff, and I stalled, my fingers caressing my throat. The hangover hurt a lot less today.

I am used to how surprised people were when they saw how efficient I am in keeping my position as the president of the Stone Corporation. I did it so effortlessly well, that my habit of picking up women and partying every other night was easily over looked.

"Not yet. He is on his way."

I nodded and leaned back again, just as the door opened, and my father peeped in.

"I will take the other car," he said, his walking stick in front of him. He was, however a very agile fifty four year old, with looks that betrayed the concept of age.

On a bad day he looked forty at most, and only used the stick to add to the elegance in his steps. With sharp, hawk like eyes, and black hair he dyed every single time he went into the shower, he almost looked like my older brother.

Just with a very strained relationship.

We were almost rivals sometimes, and even though we managed to keep it cordial most times, we got heated.

He still hated me. I felt the same way.

Why?

Because I am no more werewolf. I am tribrid lycan, and it had driven him crazy that his child was much stronger, probably thrice the man he will ever be.

He always accused mother of cheating, because how would she explain that I was not only werewolf, but lycan and part vampire?

Even when the pure bloods had proven the originality of my specie, he continued to hate me.

But this time, it was for a different reason, and I saw the insecurity whenever I looked at his eyes. He probably feared that one day, I would want to take everything.

Because he knew I can. I was born with enough power to.

"Suit yourself," I said, paying only half attention to him. He moved away and closed the door, and with long strides, walked to the other car in front. He got in, and the convoy stated to move, with only one car behind the limo I was occupying.

I watched as the path gradually changed as we headed for the pack. I reached for my phone and swiped it open, and the tons of messages from the girl I had left back at the hotel room popped up.

I sighed and without reading it, swiped it all away. I have more things to bother about than a girl who didn't understand what one night stands meant. I had been too drunk to remember how she even got my number.

The pack came into gradual view, and I leaned forward, feeling a weird sensation in the pit of my stomach. It felt like a host of butterflies flying up and down, and I couldn't tell if it was excitement, nervousness or something else.

It felt almost like trying to reach an orgasm, but I wasn't quite there. But I knew I was looking for something. Something within these high fences.

Once we entered the pack's territory, there was a long line of wolves waiting to welcome us. I sighed as the car stopped, and the driver got out to open the door for me

I stepped out, just as father did, and walked over to them. He seemed to know everyone, and they gave a small respectful bow while taking his hand.

I simply gave a small smile as he passed by them, my head up in the clouds, the unsettling feeling within my chest growing.

Slowly, I felt my chest start to tighten. It was a very unfamiliar feeling, the kind of feeling when you are about to cry. But I wasn't even close to tears.

These emotions were not mine, not even close. I swallowed, feeling my wolf's agitation inside me.

With a blind, insane drive, I found myself walking away from the crowd. My feet and my wolf seemed to know exactly where to go, and my body for now was too weak to protest.
