61. A better pair

Abel and I had listened to Kern's words and left his mansion almost immediately. He brought us to a house he had rented for three months.

Although I had lived in the human world for some time, I hadn't been to this part. I could see that it was costly and knew I wouldn't have had a chance to live there even if I wanted to.

We spent the first few days in the house, just lazing around. Abel told me that I needed to relax after all that I had been through, and after resting for a few days, I finally had enough energy to get up and leave the house.

Abel and I decided to spend the day exploring. I walked over to Kern's room and knocked on the door. When he opened it, I realised he did not dare look at my face.

Thinking about it now, it seemed he had been ignoring me since we arrived. I had only seen him a handful of times since we arrived, and he hadn't shared a single meal with us.
