By sunrise, my men and I resumed our journey to the next town. There was awkwardness that hung in the air between Kamael and I. When I mentioned that my heart belonged to someone else the night before, he went pale like he had seen a ghost. He said nothing else after that, biding me goodnight before leaving. By the morrow, he spoke to me only when it was necessary and even then, he refused to look me in the eyes.

I felt terrible throughout the first day of our journey. My eyes would occasionally wander to him on his horse, hoping that he would look at me with a smile. His charming, breathtaking smile, but he never did. By the next day, I had gotten used to him pretending I wasn't there and also did the same. My eyes stayed glued to my book and I spoke to him only when it was necessary. The guilty feeling of rejecting him was gone. The desperate feeling of wanting him to act like he used to was also gone.
