Chapter 147: Adealaide.

Cain smiles when he sees me and I feel tears prick the back of my eyeballs.

His eyes are still bleary from the effects of his slumber and the crescent moons look hooded when he peers at me through half-open lashes.

I duck back out the entrance, and for lack of a better thing to do I snap my fingers at the healers.

They come running to me immediately.

Alizadeh ordered them to obey every order I give and though they sneer behind my back, they don’t disobey.

Leah is the only person I’ve seen work healing magic before so when the females walk towards Cain’s bed and one of them tentatively places a hand on his chest, I watch with rapt attention.

A soft light seems to emanate from under her splayed palm.

It takes me a minute to remember that Cain’s shirt is a thin white linen shirt. This close, as the fabric rests on his body and the sweat from his fever-filled sleep makes it damp, I can see the contours of his body.
