The policeman stares me down from the other end of the car and I meet his gaze with as much fierce defiance as I can.

Lyros is trying to communicate with him, but he’s making things intentionally difficult because he’s a police officer and he thinks i’m some kind of call girl.

Lyros could kill him on the spot.

“I’m sorry but I'll have to ask you to step down sir and show me some ID. Both of you. I’ll also need contact information, the papers to your car, and a blood sample” He looks at me deliberately now, “So I'm sure you didn’t just endanger a highway’s worth of car users because of some alcohol or something else in your system.”

Something like rage threatens to bubble up in me but I slam it back down.

I don’t get angry.

Rage isn’t something that’s a trait in me, yet I find myself getting angry at this moment because this man doesn’t know who he’s speaking to.

He doesn’t know he stands to lose his neck and it would be so easy for Lyros to do it.
