I was talking with Kelly's parents at the reception dinner when I noticed Kelly was fast asleep on a lounge chair with Grace. I remove my suit jacket as I walk over to them and cover them with it. Kelly lets out a content sigh from the warmth of my jacket and pulls it closer around her and Grace.
Kennedy was sitting nearby having trouble putting Jamie to sleep. I walk over and offer to help put her to sleep. She gives me relieved eyes and lets me take her screaming daughter. I lay her head on my chest and start swaying gently as she grasped at my vest.
Moments later her screaming calmed to grunts as she fell asleep. Everyone that was close to Kennedy's table was amazed at how quickly I was able to get her daughter to sleep. I go to lay her in the carseat and she gripped tight at my vest. I carefully undo the buttons and slip out of it without waking her. I carefully clip her in with my vest covering her like a blanket and she grunts a content sigh.

I woke to my mother and sister kissing my forehead. I notice tears in their eyes and realize they were looking at Kelly next to me. She was hugged to my right arm with our hands laced between us.Tears fill my eyes and choke in a whisper, "I wanted her to have a wedding better than the one I had with Jessica and I ruined it by ending up in here.""You can still give her that sweetheart," my mother chokes in a soothing whisper and I look at her as tears roll down my cheeks. "You still have that beautiful beach wedding you planned for next year. You planned this small gathering because she didn't want to wait after what happened with Katie.""There isn't going to be a wedding next year if I'm not there to participate," I choke quietly and she looks at me with hurt eyes. "I almost died twice in the last six weeks. Whose to say that something doesn't happen in the next year. I don't even know if I'll see my twins born if I continue with the job I have.""You
I woke the next morning to Kelly looking down at me, propped up on her elbow. She gives a light smile and kisses my forehead. "Good morning," she says quietly, brushing hair off my forehead."Everything okay," I ask in a murmured whisper. She nods lightly and says softly with a smile, "Just admiring how cute my wife looks sleeping.""Sorry I ruined your moment," I say quietly and she gives me a kiss."It's okay," she says quietly as Claire walks in with my medication and her prenatal vitamin. "Thank you Claire.""You're welcome," she says with a smile. She looks at me and asks shyly, "Are you up for me helping Kelly give you a sponge bath today?"I raise eyebrows at Kelly and she lets out a light laugh. "Claire's already seen everything. She's been one of your nurses since we met," she chokes quietly at the end. "You've just been unconscious when she's helped change you into a hospital gown.""Honestly if Kelly didn'
A few weeks passed since I needed surgery to remove the bullet fragment from my chest on our wedding night. Kelly and I were at the hospital checking on the internal repair of my artery. My chest was fully healed within the last week and Devon was impressed. She was checking my artery with an ultrasound machine and scoffs in surprise. "I never had a patient heal this fast before," she says amazed, gently wiping away the gel from my chest."My mother always joked I had mutant DNA when I was a kid," I say with a smile as I fasten the buttons of my shirt."I still want you to take it easy a couple more weeks, but I don't think it'll hurt if you want to have a romantic evening with Kelly," she says with a sympathetic smile.Tears of relief fill my eyes and couldn't stop myself from hugging the other woman. "Thank you. You made it possible for me to even still be here," I choke with relief."Kelly needs you," she says softly as I pull away to look
Kelly was nearing the end if her pregnancy with just two days to go. She's been moody and Claire and I do the best we can to keep her calm. It's been mostly Claire who gets her to calm down while I'm working. I'd calm her down the rest of the way when I get home. Though today was different, when I came home it was quiet. I went looking for her and Claire and found them napping in our bed. Kelly had her head on Claire's chest and Claire had her hand resting on Kelly's stomach. I smile at the view and leave them to sleep. It was rounding dinner time so I decided to surprise them with dinner. I decided to make something that Kelly has been asking me to make, my chicken parmesan that I made our first night she moved in. Lately I've been pulling a few extra hours to have extra money saved for when the twins get here. It's usually Claire that's been cooking and cleaning. Joyce sent kelly on maternity leave a couple of weeks ago when Kelly went into a false labor whil
Two weeks have passed since the twins were born. We were able to take them home a few days after they were born. The first twin we named after Kennedy. The second twin we named Peyton. Thankfully she hasn't had any problems with her breathing since I revived her at birth. It was the middle of the night when I heard whimpers from the nursery. I carefully slip out of bed and enter the nursery. I peer down at the twins and Peyton's face was scrunched up, like she was ready to start wailing. I look at at Kennedy and she was sleeping peacefully. I quickly scoop Peyton out of the crib and take her to a rocking chair. She immediately calms in my arms, keeping my eye contact. Her eyes droop with sleep and turns her face in my chest. She grasps at my shirt, shuttering a sleepy sigh. I gently rock the chair and she curls up in my arms. I feel my eyes get heavy as I rock her back to sleep. I close my eyes and let out a tired sigh.
Two weeks passed with Claire making it to her second trimester. I requested the day off after I came home last night and she was emotional, moreso than usual. It hit me this morning that it was because she made it to her second trimester. I woke up this morning to both her and Kelly still asleep. Kelly's been sleeping at Claire's back since we learned about the twins. It's been comforting for her and that's what we came to agree on. Doing whatever keeps Claire calm and relaxed. So when I came home to her in distress, I called in for today off. Her stomach was resting against my side with Kelly's hand caressing her bump. I bring myhand up to join Kelly's and moments later I feel a kick. Claire's eyes fly open as I felt lick after kick. She breaks into uncontrolled sobs and I kiss her forehead. Kelly wakes from behind her, sweeping her thumb and kissing her shoulder. "It's their way of telling you they're okay," Kelly says in a soothing whisper and Claire le
Elliott I burst in through the emergency room, continuous tears rolling down my cheeks. I walk up to the nurses station and choke, hysterical, "My daughter, she's three years old...her daycare called me..." Before I could finish, paramedics were rushing her in from the ambulance dock. "Macy Adams, three years old, suffering severe asthma. Asthma inhaler ran out at the daycare," a female medic says to a female doctor. "Macy," I choke in sobs, running alongside them and take her small hand in mine. "Daddy's here Mace." Her wheezing made it difficult for her to speak, but she seemed relieved I was there. She squeezes my hand as tight as she could. She keeps her eyes on mine as they get her in a private room and hook her up for a medicine for her to breathe in and calm her breathing. "Is her..." the doctor starts asking about her mother and I quickly shake my head, gesturing towards the hall. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize her mother was
I was finishing up my detective's exam when Jackson's secretary came running up to us with a troubled look in her eyes. Her eyes meet mine and I run out of there before she could even say a word. I get to my car and call Kelly from the car phone. "What's wrong? I didn't give Jackson's secretary a chance to explain," I choke in a worried whisper."I'm at the hospital with Peyton," she chokes quietly. "Claire is fine, our mothers are with her. I rode in the ambulance with her, can you come here, please?""I'm on my way, just hang in there okay," I choke quietly."I need you Jen, I don't think I can calm down without you. I'm scared," she chokes in broken sobs. "Peyton stopped breathing.""She's going to be fine, do you hear me," I choke quietly, fighting to be strong for my wife."Yes," she says in a choked whisper, barely audible."I love you," I choke in a soothing whisper and hear her let out a calming breath."I lo
