Ethereal...it's been awhile.
I’ve been on dates before. Well, I’ve been on dates with human girls from college. To me, they don’t really count. In my mind, that was merely practice for tonight. And other than everyone staring, tonight is fantastic. I’m used to the staring. I’m an Alpha, my father and brother are Alphas, my mother and sisters are Guardians, so everyone stares when any of us walk into a room. I’ve grown up with it, but Maeve hasn’t. So, I told them to back off. I didn’t realize that it would be so obvious to her. I hadn’t planned to tell her what I had done. I will say, it was fun to show off a bit. Knowing that she was surprised that I can speak low enough that she can’t hear but everyone else in the room can, I definitley showed off a bit. When she asks about the council, I begin to explain to her that there is something off about them. It’s not the only reason, but it’s definitely one of the reasons that I’m going with Maeve. If there is something underhanded going on, I need to make sure that
Xander and I head downstairs to the spell room. When I woke up this morning, my first thought should have been that I was tangled up in bed with a man. A very sexy man that seems to really like me. But no. All I could think about was that these shifters have senses much more heightened than I even realize and what if he can smell my morning breath. Yep, that’s what was running through my head, morning breath. Not the massive hard on that was pressing against me, not the fact that I slept better than I have in years, not even the fact that I desperately didn’t want to get up and leave Xander’s warmth. Morning breath. That’s what my brain latched on to. I practically scrubbed the enamel off my teeth trying to make sure that they were sufficiently clean before I opened the door and there he was, once again looking like he just stepped out of some surfing magazine. I mean seriously, the man is ridiculously gorgeous. When we get to the spell room, I can see that my spell is ready. I wa
I’m glad my mate seems fine with me kissing her all the time. I can’t get enough of her. I’m starting to understand why my father is always touching my mother, always kissing her, always…well, you know. My little mate just brightened the day of every sprite in our surrounding forests. Not only that, she showed them that not all witches are bad. I have to admit, I was as amazed by her magic as the sprites were. Who pulls light out of thin air? Literally, out of the air. As we’re headed back to the packhouse, I have an idea. “I know you want to go to the Ferris wheel, and I have every intention of taking you there, but would you like to have a picnic at the top of the falls with me tonight? I’d like to share my favorite place on the pack lands with you.” “I’d like that. Quiet is probably better for me tonight. I’m worried about going in front of the council tomorrow. It sounds an awful lot like going in front of a judge in the human world,” she says. “But you’re not in any trouble.
I’m terrified when we walk through the front doors of the council. I don’t care what Xander says, this place is like a courthouse. When we’re called into the room where the council will question me, it’s even worse that I was expecting. There are three ‘judges’ in high seats sitting in a semi-circle looking down at me. When we walk in, I see Alpha Emerson sitting with a man and woman who must be his parents and I see Leana sitting beside them with another man I don’t recognize. We go to sit beside them, and I see Alpha Emerson’s mother looking at me intently before turning to hug the others. Leana hugs Xander, then me before moving on to her parents. Xander introduces me to Alpha Cohen, the most recent Alpha of Canyon Ridge pack. As one, the group looks up at the council and something I either didn’t catch or didn’t hear has them all taking their seats. “Maeve Cross, step forward.” A man who, I swear, has pointy ears, says to me from one of the council chairs. Xander squeezes my h
Einar pushes forward snarling as Alpha Wyatt asks about Meadow and Tate. I hear Maeve’s heart rate spike, and I watch as she sways on her feet. “MAEVE!” I call, racing to her, catching her just before she hits the floor. I look up at the council, snarling as I tuck my mate against my body. “How the fuck do you know about her siblings?” I can tell by the looks on their faces that King Lance and Phiren didn’t know about the siblings, so it’s only Alpha Wyatt. I’m guessing that was the name that the girl, Azure, heard the high priestess talking about. He's dirty, and whatever his reason, he's going against my brother and our pack. “I’m a member of this council. It is my job to know the details of the people who stand before me.” Alpha Wyatt says haughtily. “If that’s so, then how is it that you don’t know that the spell that she created is what is impacting my brother’s mate bond?” I say, as my father comes over, taking Maeve from me and walking her over to the where my family is si
When we walk into the restaurant, it takes everything in me not to turn around and race out of there. The place must be a local hangout for supernaturals. I can feel the aura of multiple predators in one space. Of course, most of those are at the same table, the table that Xander is casually leading me to. Guardian Angel waves us over and Xander sits me beside her just as a man I haven’t met moves over a seat to sit beside me. “Hi, I’m Cayd, we haven’t met yet,” he says, holding out his hand. “I’m Maeve,” I say, reaching out to shake his hand. Instead, he takes my hand and pulls it to him mouth, kissing it. Xander growls at him. “Cayd, get out of my seat before I kick your ass," Xander says to him. “Just so you know, I’m the fun brother,” he says before scooting over. Xander puts his hand on Cayd's face and pushes him back as he sits down. “He’s the bratty brother,” Xander says to me. “Maeve,” Guardian Angel says, getting my attention. “I’d like to introduce you to Emlyn's mothe
While today at the council was a total shitshow until Emlyn showed up, lunch with Maeve and the family was good. Everyone is accepting her, whether they have figured out that she’s my mate or not, they all seem to like her. Not surprisingly, even Emlyn accepts her. Just another reason why Emlyn was made to be the Luna of this pack. And while she doesn’t come back to Shadow Falls, having agreed to become acting Luna to Cohen’s pack, she’s still closer so Rich can spend time with her and Leander. When we get back to the packhouse, Maeve wants to go to her spell room. She does some sort of magic, turning the cauldron back into a bowl and then proceeds to clean up the room, making sure that none of the magic remains. I help her collect her things and we walk to the kitchen to wash the dishes and put them away. “You’re very quiet, Maeve. Is everything okay?” “Yes,” she says in the first lie I think she’s told me. “Did you want to watch a movie tonight? Cayd will most likely crash, I s
That night, I hear Xander come to my room, but I don’t open the door. My heart feels like it’s breaking at having to leave him. I don’t sleep, I can’t. So instead, I write Xander a note. Someone will find it eventually. When I see everyone begin walking out for training, I go take a shower. I walk into the closet and find the clothes that I was wearing when I got here. None of these clothes hanging in the closet belong to me. Has it really only been a couple of weeks since I arrived? It feels like forever. When I’m done, I walk downstairs. I look outside and see that most everyone is still in training, so I head out the front door. I go to his parents’ house and knock quietly. I’m not sure if anyone is here or if they are sleeping. The door opens almost immediately. “Maeve,” Guardian Angel says. “Hello, Guardian. I was wondering if it would be possible for me to get a ride home.” “Sweetheart, come inside. What happened?” My throat constricts and I just shake my head. I know if
