What did you think of Xander's surprise? Do you think Maeve will like it?
I watch as Maeve’s eyes go wide. “Did you say home? You bought this place?” Reagan asks as I watch the confusion and surprise flash across my mate’s face. “Well, technically, Rich and the pack bought it. When I take over as CEO, I’ll buy it back from him,” I tell her, still watching Maeve’s reaction. “It’s too much. It’s way too much, Xander,” Maeve says. “It’s not. We need a place where I know that you, Meadow and Tate are safe, a place that we can come to at the end of the day and relax. A place where, eventually, we can raise our children. If you don’t like it, that’s one thing. But, if the only reason you don’t want it is because you think it’s too expensive, then we’re keeping it,” I tell her. “Maeve, you’ve got to see this!” Meadow calls from the other room. “Xander already said this was their room. You and I have to fight over the other three rooms,” Tate says to Meadow. I lean in, kissing my mate softly. “At least look around. Tell me if you can see us here, raising our
The next few days go by in a flurry of activity. Reagan told her parents about the penthouse and the binding ceremony, and the next thing I know, we’ve been given a house warming ‘present’ of furniture to fill our penthouse. Angel took me shopping with Meadow and Reagan and we picked out the furniture I wanted. Xander told me he didn’t care, as long as I was happy and it felt like home to me. He says if it feels like home to me, it will feel like home to him. When we go to the furniture store, I choose a couch with end tables and tell Angel that’s what I want. I am already struggling with the price of the furniture and the extravagance of the gift when she tells me what her intent was. “Sweetheart, we’re furnishing your entire condo. And it’s not just me and Liam, Rich and the pack want to help too. You not only helped to keep our pack safe from the witches, you and your family were essential in helping our wolves heal when they suffered burns from the spells. Not only that, but Mal
Life is perfect, wonderful, amazing, all the good adjectives! Maeve and I are bound together in all the ways that matter to us and fun fact, I can now do a little magic. Tate has been trying to teach me some simple spells in the evening. The furniture arrived at the penthouse and my family came to help us put everything in order. This place already feels like home. It would anyway, since Maeve’s strawberries and cream scent surrounds me everywhere I go in our condo, but with the added furniture, the warmth that my mate brings to our new home, any concern I had for living away from the pack is gone. The night we move in, Maeve insists on making dinner for everyone. I told her we could order pizza, but she wanted to thank everyone. So after all the furniture is moved to the proper rooms, Reagan helping Meadow and Cayd helping Tate while Mom and Dad help me, Maeve began making a huge dinner. As the delicious scents of food permeated the room, I realize my mate is making the meal that I
The morning after moving into our penthouse, Xander walks me and Meadow to the shop. He checks to ensure that it’s safe and that no one broke into it. Well, no one but his family. They brought our things from upstairs to the penthouse. I’d consider using the space as storage, but I know Xander is serious about moving my shop closer to our building. I have mixed feelings about that. This shop is the one that my parents bought after we left Levana’s coven. But it is also the place where they were murdered, and when I think of that, I can’t leave this place quickly enough. It’s as busy today as it was when Xander was here with me and I had just reopened after being away. I’ve been away again and once word is out that we’re back, people come rushing in. Thankfully, Meadow is here to help me and I’m not overwhelmed. At one point, I look out the window and I see Jesse standing across the street, watching the shop. I go open the door. “You may as well come inside, Jesse,” I say, not rais
The next morning, I walk Maeve and Meadow back to the shop. Tate is spending time with Cayd as he gets ready to head off to the same university I attended last year. I’m happy for him. I hope he has a good time, but my time on campus at the university is done. From now on, it’s online classes for me. I have a family now and I need to start taking over the family business from my father. As part of that, I meet up with my father and we both go upstairs to talk with Avery. We knock on the door and Isla answers. We walk in and seeing that Avery is awake, I thank Isla, letting her know she’s off duty until tonight. Once she’s gone, I turn to Avery, offering her the breakfast I stopped and got this morning, making sure that my mate and her sister were fed. Maeve insisted on getting food for Jesse too. I’m glad she’s comfortable with him. He’s good at his job and it makes his job of protecting her easier if she trusts him. I turn my focus to Avery. “So, tell us about Levana.” She takes a
After getting ready and stopping to get Avery, I go by my office to get the two guards that I intend to take with me today. Instead, I run into Cayd and Tate. “What are you two doing here?” I ask. “I wanted to see if you needed anything?” Cayd says. “Actually, I do. From both of you,” I say, looking at Tate. He has bonded with Cayd, but I want us to be close too. “What kind of help?” he asks. “Well, apparently the nasty witch Levana is hunting witches that didn’t fight against the Guardians and I’m going to find them, bring them here and give them a safe place to live. I’d love it if you would come too. I could use another witch,” I say. “What do you mean, ‘another witch’?” he asks. “Tate, Cayd, meet Avery. She was part of Levana’s coven.” Avery waves at them, but Tate doesn’t move. “How do we know that we can trust you?” Tate asks. And this is one of the reasons I want him with me today. He’s not a typical thirteen-year-old. He’s been through a lot and he’s cautious. “Maeve
After Xander called to tell me he wouldn’t be able to come join me for lunch, I was disappointed, but I focused on work. People are still flocking to my shop and after yesterday, I’m on alert for any real witches that may come in to seek the assistance of the Guardians. It’s later in the afternoon when I begin to feel antsy, uncomfortable, like something is wrong. “Maeve? What is it?” Jesse asks. I look at him. “I’m not sure. I feel off.” He frowns, looking at me more closely. “You feel off, of something feels off?” he asks, getting clarification. “Well,” I think for a moment, “something feels off. I feel fine, I think. It’s weird.” Jesse pulls out his phone, hitting speed dial. When no one answers, he disconnects and tries again. Nothing. He looks at me before dialing again. “Alpha, have you heard anything from Alpha Xander or Alpha Cayd?” He watches me as he talks to my father-in-law. “Maeve is feeling off and I’ve tried both of them. They aren’t answering their phones.” “T
“What’s wrong with her?” I ask, moving toward Maeve as Cayd catches her. I feel slow, sluggish. I should have reached her before he did. I stand up, wobbly and unsteady on my feet. It’s an uncomfortable feeling for someone who is used to being very strong. “Let me take a look at her,” my mother says, striding into the room. “Move that blanket,” she directs. “NO!” Avery and Amir say at the same time. “Only Maeve can remove it. And to answer your question, Alpha, you don’t battle death without it taking a toll on you,” Amir says. “I’ve got you,” I hear Jesse say and I turn just in time to see him catch Meadow. “Dad!” I say, just as Tate begins wobbling on his feet. “Take them upstairs,” I say and my mother comes to wrap her arm around my waist, helping me to stand. “Let’s get them back to the penthouse, they’ll be more comfortable there and this group needs to get settled," my mom says, taking charge. “I can walk Mom, get the pups,” I say, seeing Lynn’s kids huddled in a corner
