After Lily hung up, Alexander asked, “Do you need me to come with you?”

“No, it’s fine,” she shook her head. “Don’t worry, I can handle this alone, but I’d like to borrow someone from you.”

Nathaniel wanted to meet at a café on Purple Lane. Both Nathaniel and Melanie were early, staring at the café doors. When they saw Lily walk in, Nathaniel instinctively stood up. He would have walked over to welcome Lily if Melanie had not stopped him,
