He looked at me like I’ve got a point so my confidence shot up. I leaned forward, my face coming to an inch from his, and I said, ‘It’s brilliant, right?’

Then, I felt two large warm palms just above each of my knees. I looked down—.

‘Don’t.’ He breathed. ‘Don’t look away from me.’

Something in his voice tugged at me. I jerked up my face and his eyes held mine when he whispered, ‘We’ll do it. But with one condition.’

I could almost guess what it was.

‘You can’t be alone with Ambrose.’ He searched my face for a hint of betrayal.

I’m sure he’d find none. How do I make him believe it without breaking the contract? And of all people—werewolves included—why Ambrose? Why didn’t he think that I might actually fall for him?

Right. Because he doesn't want me to fall for him.
