This was going to turn awkward, I knew she wanted to talk about last night and whatever they had going on, but I certainly didn't yearn to be in the middle.

She had finally lifted her head and met my gaze, her eyes were red, and I knew she had been crying.

"Selia, whatever it is. It's between you and the Alpha, keep me out of it," I firmly told her before she could get any funny ideas that I was going to make her life miserable or she would think of making mine. I had enough problems to deal with and had no time for hers as well.

Melsine sensed the tension between us and she shifted uncontrollably in her seat, seeming a little guilty but keeping quiet.

I placed the spoon down, my appetite was gone.

"I only wished to apologise, I didn't know you were his mate. Everyone told me you were a new maid. I don't know the reason why he is treating you the way he is but I was only following orders. It's not my intention to hurt you or cause a rift between two fated mates."
