After Vasmir reported to the king, King Lawson headed to the Eastern Palace to make sure that the royal concubine was not hurt in any way. The king never replied anymore because if he did, their conversation would drag on until dawn. Thinking that Emery was already back to sleep, he put his arm on her shoulder. Emery simply shook away her worries and thought that her gut feeling was probably wrong that time. She handed the scroll back to the king and did not show any complaints since she would be able to accompany him outside the kingdom without having to hide. The very next day, Emery stood in front of the palace gates with her eyes reflecting the disappointed look on Lila’s face. She did not actually want to let her leave because she would be all alone in the palace but she was given no choice. Emery clenched her fists, giving her the strength to speak before anything else awkward could happen. “Y-Your Majesty,” she stuttered in a low tone of voice, “we should c-continue with the inspection.” Seeing her burning red cheeks was rather satisfying for the king so he stopped and flashed a smile. He thought that she was a person who could not react like a normal lady in situations like that but he was glad he was wrong. “Yes, we should.” Saying that, he retreated and turned his back on her while wearing a victorious grin. She scoffed because it was only then that she finally came to see the real intention of the royal concubine. The queen, then, started to question all her previous actions of showing mercy toward her were just in vain. Had she been played by the royal concubine ever since then? What a fool she was. Nevertheless, she was being cornered, making her feel that there was no single person in that place who would take her side, especially since Lila left the palace. Should she just scare them away?
