“Baby, I’m here. I’m right here,” I told Jacey as we entered the district attorney’s office.

It had been a few days, and I’d slept blissfully well, but Jacey had tossed and turned, still unsure about accusing her father of assault.

When the district attorney called us, Jacey was already a wreck. So there was no way I was letting her go alone.
