Chapter 47

Jake

I had finally made it to the office. I had run my hands through my hair countless times on the way over. I could feel my heart rate rising in anticipation, I felt like a teenage boy once again all hormones and emotions, my normal logical reasoning seemed out the window.

I haven’t felt this way in years. The feeling was something I was beginning to love and loath.

I headed to my office hearing Stephanie in the kitchen, I let out a breath I didn’t know I had been holding. Was I worried that she wouldn’t show up today? Sitting on my desk already were a stack of letters. I sat down in my chair making a list of everything I needed to do today.

I had a few other cases on the go that were still in the settling stages not needing to go to court. I fired off a few emails to my clients and the opposing lawyers either agreeing or rejecting their offers. I saw Stephanie out of my peripheral vision answering her own emails which she copied me in on.
