DARLENE

We sat hip to hip for what felt like hours, my husband and me, in the cold guest lounge of the McKenzie manor.

“What else? What else did you find?” The man breathed, brushing his palms from his face and turning slightly in my direction.

I caught the waft of his scent again, the smell that seemed to pour from every inch of the manor. Lavender and dark roses sprayed with testosterone.

I shook my head, trying to clear the lustful thoughts before something seemed to snap into place in my mind.

“The day Mary died! You had gone to see Prince Charles right? So if he testifies that you were with him! It's as solid an alibi as we could get! You'll be off the hook for her murder!” I rasped hotly, watching the grimace creep into my husband’s face as I rattled off the words mindlessly.
