CHAPTER 199

FREDERICK

The cold bite of the night air chipped at my face as I got out of the station so I was positive the tip of my nose had gotten red.

“Bloody hell,” I growled under my breath when the sky cracked with lightning suddenly and lashed at me with cold rain so that I hung my hands over my head and sprinted to the black vintage Volkswagen I had gotten myself, clapping the drops away and turning the AC up to heat.

Detective Bowler had not been able to pleased that our plan completely flopped, cursing up a storm and barking at me like some goddamned fire-breathing dragon.

My hands shook on the steering wheel as I watched the rain blur my view of the granite street and sidewalk, the calming sound of the pit-patter clashing on the roof doing more to unsettle me than anything.

“I'm not sure about this anymore Stefan...I can't put myself out there like this,” I spurted, holding my breath as a silence so loud it was deafening filled the other end.
