Chapter 10

"Jeez, Daniel. You didn't have to yell at me." Emily complained.

"Emily, you... I... Judy's dead." I said, without really meaning to.

"What?! Oh my God! How? When?" She gasped.

"I'd rather not talk about it, Emily."

"No, please. I really want to know."

Despite how much I tried not to, I told her, deleting every aspect that had to do with Adam.

"Oh. My. Goodness. That's why you left your backpack at school the other day and was absent the whole week. I was so worried about you, Daniel." She said, placing her hands on my shoulders.

I could see that she felt sorry for me, but I was far from ready for what was about to happen.

She was intending to kiss me, and that was the last thing I wanted, but I stayed still, unable to move any part of my body because a part of me wanted that kiss, but the other part wanted my first kiss to be with someone else, perhaps someone I wasn't about to break up with. It wasn't technically a break up but still, I couldn't let Emily kiss me!

Her eyes were slowly closing and she kept moving closer and closer...

Then the doorbell rang ,breaking me free from Emily as I quickly pulled away.

Never have I been so glad to hear the doorbell ring. Emily frowned.

The doorbell rang again.

"Who is it?!" Emily fumed.

"Relax, it should be the pizza I ordered." I said, opening the door. I was right. It was the pizza delivery guy. I was about collecting the pizza box from his hands when Emily marched up to us, slightly pushing me away.

"Hey! You don't see me disrupting the special moment you're about to have with your girlfriend, do you? That's if you even have one!" She yelled, her face red with fury.

"Emily, it's not- "

"Excuse me!" She faces the delivery guy, who looked totally taken aback by her wild attitude.

He just kept on staring, and so did I.

She jerked the pizza from him, shoving it to me as she produced some dollars from her purse. "Here's the money for the pizza. And no tips for you!" She said, collecting the pizza from me, returning to where she sat.

I was baffled. Totally baffled at her reaction because I'd never seen Emily that angry over a little thing. Maybe I was beginning to see her for who she really was.

"What a girlfriend you've got there." The delivery guy said.

"I... I'm so sorry about that. Would you like a tip?" I asked, fumbling with my pockets to tip him.

"Nah, it's alright. Keep your money." He said, walking away. I was super irritated with Emily.

I shut the door.

"What the hell was that all about?" I asked, half trying to calm myself down.

She didn't answer.

"I'm talking to you!" I shouted, unable to keep my cool anymore.

"Shut the fuck up Daniel! Just... Just shut it!. You know, I actually thought you loved me, but after telling you about my predicament with Adam, what did you do about it? Nothing! You did nothing!"

"What the hell did you expect me to do?! Tell me! To produce a gun out of nowhere and shoot the life out of Adam so you're not stuck with him anymore? And can be with me forever? Huh? Is that what what you want? To kill the guy that risked his life to save you, and make sure you end up with me? Oh I'm sorry if I'm not heartless like you!" I yelled at the top of my voice.

"Yeah, that's what they all say, that Adam risked his life for me, but they never talk about what he asked for in return! He asked for me, Daniel. Do you know what that feels like? To be forever stuck with someone you can't stand, and to be denied the opportunity to experience true love. I never knew love till I met you, Daniel, and now it's so fucking clear that you don't want me. You never did." She said amidst tears, streaming down her face.

Right then all the anger that had built up suddenly flew out the window, and all that was left was feelings of sincere concern.

"Emily, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for acting that way towards you. I... I was just too angry to see anything else. I'm sorry."

"It's okay Daniel, its not your fault." She said, dabbing the tears off her face with her blouse.

"Actually, I uh, called you here to tell you something very important."

"What is it?" She asked, moving closer.

Then I told her. I told her that whether or not we loved each other, we couldn't be together, because of Adam. I told her Adam saw me as a threat to their relationship, so she just had to forget about me, and move on with life.

"But it's you I'm in love with, Daniel. Not Adam. How can you not see that?!"

"But I love someone else!" I blurted, immediately regretting it.

She sat there, staring at me in shock. I couldn't say anything else. I didn't even know what to say.

"Y- you mean you l- love somebody else?" She stuttered, almost whispering.

"I love Chloe..." The words came out. And without warning, a resounding slap landed on my face.

Now I was the one to stare in shock.

Her eyes were glistening again. She was crying again. Because of me.

"I spent the few months I've known you, pouring out my heart to you, loving you, and now you say you love someone else? Just tell me you never loved me and stop blaming Adam. Just say you hate me!" She screamed.

"But Adam killed my sister!" I blurted again, no longer in control of the words I was speaking. "Adam is the guy that impregnated Judy! And he gave her the wrong abortion pills, Emily! He did all that just to get back at me! He did that just because I love you! Just because- "

"Just shut up already Daniel! Just shut up! So now you're accusing Adam of killing Judy? Huh? How desperate can you get just to prove a point? Adam can never do such a thing, I may not have feelings for him but I know him. I know who he is. I don't know you. I see that's how desperate you are, to blame it all on Adam because you don't like him. How pathetic. You disgust me." She spat.

"You don't believe me. Good! Great! Hurray! Go on living your life with a blood thirsty criminal. Alright! But when you realize you've made a very big mistake, don't come for me, cause I won't be there!" I yelled.

With tears running down her cheeks, "You know what? I broke my own heart loving you. Adam is, in many ways, better than a good for nothing pathetic liar." She carried her bag, flinging the pizza from the table in front of her, messing up the whole place.

"You know what? I never really loved you anyway."

"Yeah. That's what I thought." She said, leaving.

I could do nothing else than watch her walk away. Away from my life for good.
