Chapter 54

Denzel took to the long corridor illuminated with white light, his heart racing faster than his legs. The walls seemed to be closing in on him, and he wanted to go back.

He had never liked hospitals and visiting once a month was bearable. Not twice in a day, and not when the person lying on the sick bed was his father.

The stench of the hospital tickled his nose and his stomach threatened to throw out, but Denzel ignored it, moving faster with his eyes searching for the room number the lady at the reception had given him.

Michel was seated, looking pale when Denzel saw her. He stopped a few meters away from her to analyze the situation. Michel’s fingers were interlaced into each other, and her face carried worry.

"Mum?"

Michel turned to the recognizable voice of her son. "Oh, Denzel." She stood up and they fell under each other’s arms in a tight embrace.

"How is he?" he asked after they disengaged. Michel sat down, and Denzel found a spot beside her, taking her hand in his.
