Chapter 7 Do You Want to Learn Sword Fighting?

There were three cultivators in the forest. Chen Sheng who had kept his sword in its sheath looked toward the teenager whom he had seen by the river earlier that day. Chen Sheng was interested to know him, and he cracked a smile when he saw Li Fuyao holding a wooden stick in his hands.

Qing Huai, the snake demon was unfazed and did not portray any emotions. Mr. Yan from Yanling Confucian Temple, on the other hand, quickly figured things out and just looked at the teenager without saying a word.

Li Fuyao was holding a wooden stick and his arms were trembling. He looked pale but he was still staring at Chen Sheng who had already kept his sword.

Li Fuyao took a deep breath and took a step forward.

Chen Sheng started to develop some interest in him and looked at the wooden stick that was in his hands. He smiled and asked, “Young man, are you that snake demon’s friend? Have you decided to risk your life for her?”

Li Fuyao did not look over to Qing Huai nor did he look at Yan Yu. He just fixed his gaze on Chen Sheng and was silent for a moment. He took a deep breath and said, “I've heard that swordsmen loved to kill demons. However, I wonder if you are a person who kills a demon as soon as you see one, or do you find out whether it is a good or evil demon first before drawing your sword?”

Chen Sheng let out a laugh. “Reasoning has never been my strongest suit but come to think of it, I must give an explanation for drawing my sword in front of a teenager.”

As he was talking, Chen Sheng turned his head and threw a glance at Yan Yu. Yan Yu understood what Chen Sheng was hinting at and quickly made a fist-palm salute. “Senior, this demon has struck two of the pedants in my Confucian Temple first but it got seriously injured after that, so it fled here. The temple then ordered me to capture this demon but who knew this demon had such a magic tool. Fortunately, you’ve struck it down before it did anything violent.”

Chen Sheng snickered, “The two pedants in your temple can’t even defeat a small snake demon which just entered the Fundamental Stage? Has Confucianism started to decline after 6000 years?”

Yan Yu smiled awkwardly and did not reply to him. Not only him, even the Yanling Confucian Temple would have to treat such a swordsman who could kill that python with just one slash with great respect. How would Yan Yu dare to offend him?

Li Fuyao leaned against Qing Huai and said, “Mr. Yan, to my knowledge, it should be the Confucian Temple who struck first and Qing Huai only counterattacked to defend herself. So, Qing Huai is actually not to be blamed.”

Li Fuyao had lived with Qing Huai for a while so it was natural that he knew about this. However, he was afraid that after explaining it to Chen Sheng and Yan Yu, Yan Yu would just refute it so that he could get rid of Qing Huai. After all, between him and Yan Yu, it was obvious whose words the swordsman would believe.

However, Li Fuyao quickly realized he had been worrying for nothing. Although Yan Yu looked slightly upset, he did not refute and just admitted, “The two pedants in the temple have indeed offended…”

Chen Sheng waved his hands and did not want to hear more about it. He did not have the mood to tease the teenager anymore. “Fine, if the other cultivators in this world found out I, Chen Sheng, was bullying a small demon who had just entered the Fundamental Stage, they would laugh their heads off. I can’t be bothered by such a small demon but you have some guts. You have yet to step into the cultivation path and even saw me drawing my sword but you still had the courage to speak up for that small demon. Although this courage cannot be compared to mine, it is still hard to come by.”

Li Fuyao did not listen to any of Chen Sheng’s boasting while Yan Yu had memorized ‘Chen Sheng’ these two words. He wanted to consult the temple’s pedants regarding this swordsman once he returned to the temple. After all, there weren’t many swordsmen in this world and those who had such cultivation were even rarer. If any one of those swordsmen had appeared, the people from the three religious sects would definitely record it down.

Li Fuyao let out a sigh of relief and turned to look at Yan Yu. Since Chen Sheng no longer had any intentions of attacking, then Yan Yu was the only one that was dangerous at the scene.

Yan Yu sighed. “If it wasn’t for this senior, I would’ve lost my life already. So how will I dare to attack again? The grudge between Miss Qing Huai and the temple has been settled and once I return to the temple, I will surely convince the pedants in the temple to let go of this matter.”

Once the two of them had agreed to bury the hatchet, Li Fuyao felt relieved and walked to Qing Huai’s side. Her face which just started looking livelier had turned pale once again but he did not say anything and just smiled at her.

There were no emotions on Qing Huai’s face and she just uttered, “Fool.”

Chen Sheng had no interest in watching the both of them act coquettishly so he just turned around and left. However, just after he turned around, he noticed the teenager had been staring at the sword around his waist.

Chen Sheng who had initially lost his mood suddenly felt like having a chat with the teenager.

“What is it? Do you want to have a look?”

Li Fuyao shook his head as he did not want to cause any unnecessary troubles.

Chen Sheng just furrowed his brows. Since the teenager had rejected his offer, he had nothing more to say. However, just when he was about to leave, Qing Huai shoved Li Fuyao out and he staggered to the front of Chen Sheng.

“This fellow has a decent talent and he was almost accepted into the Confucian Temple. Do you want to see if he has any sword fighting talents?”

Chen Sheng disagreed. There were many people in this world who were suitable to become a cultivator of the three religious sects but how many could actually become a swordsman?

One of the reasons the swordsmen were scattered was because many experts had died and their exquisite swordsmanship died out with them. However, the most important reason of all was that becoming a swordsman was far harder than becoming any other cultivators. However, if a person with the right talent was discovered by a swordsman, he could be led onto the path of swordsmen.

Before Li Fuyao could come to his senses, Chen Sheng grabbed his wrist.

After a while, Li Fuyao noticed this disheveled, middle-aged man had a smile on his face.

Yan Yu had an unpleasant look on his face.

The middle-aged man had only wanted to take a quick glance at him but as soon as he held Li Fuyao’s wrist, he had a stern look on his face. He only took his hand away after 30 minutes, and this middle-aged man who had been by himself all these while suddenly licked his lips, as if he had just discovered something rare.

He looked at Li Fuyao and asked, “Are you thinking of going on the cultivation path but you are not willing to go to the Confucian Temple?”

Li Fuyao looked at the man with a serious look and kept quiet for some time. After that, he only replied with a yes.

The man smiled vibrantly with the radiance of a flower.

However, the smile only made Li Fuyao feel terrified.

He smiled and said, “You will be parting with the cultivation path if you are not willing to go to the Confucian Temple in the Yanling Region. However, you have to open up a new road if you want to go back on that cultivation path, am I right? So, you should think about the other possible roads. What I’m saying is, do you want to learn sword fighting from me?”

The middle-aged man did not look like a swordsman who dared to kill a Revelation Stage demon in the Demonic Land at all when he said that. Instead, he looked like those swindlers found at the roadside in the capital.

Yan Yu almost couldn’t restrain himself from cursing when he heard that. He was the one who found Li Fuyao first and he had been trying to think of ways to bring Li Fuyao back to the temple. However, before he could even make his move, a swordsman had laid eyes on Li Fuyao, and the most absurd thing was that the teenager would be able to learn sword fighting.
