She just dropped a bombshell and wasn’t subtle about it. Her crooked grin grew wider but I chose to ignore her. 

“Get her out of here,” I told the closest officer before I walked to my car.

I was at the precinct quicker than I expected and the mayor and chief were in the office. I wasn’t in the mood for pleasantries. I haven’t had a good night's sleep and my shift was meant to be over 12 hour ago. I was cranky.
