I stared at the swaying figures of the witches, and I realized something.

They were in a trance, whatever spell they were chanting held them deep in its thralls. That was why they hadn't sensed us to put up a fight. Lucky for us.

I looked at Lannon and he shook his head emphatically, already guessing what I was thinking. He mouthed no, hoping I'd listen.

But I wasn't good at listening and he should know that by now.

I slipped into the room, walking around the witches in their triangle and trying to see what they were doing.

There was something in the middle of the triangle, laid out on the floor.

Was that a person?

I looked closer, trying to see what the form lying there was, finally confirming that I was right.

It really was a person. And from the girth, I could see he was male. He moved around, struggling to free himself of the bonds holding him.
