“Call my attorney, I want to change my plea.” Chase called the warden.

‘Oh, really? And what else can I do for you, Mister Ward?” the warden laughed at him, taunting him through the bars.

Chase growled and smashed his fist against the door, the skin on his knuckles bursting open, and leaving a blood smear against the steel.

“Keep that up and I’ll throw you in the hole, Ward!” the warden threatened, lifting his baton to drag it against the bars of Chase’s cell. He whistled a joyful tune all the way down the corridor.

Chase threw himself on his bunk, silently screaming in his mind. How could she do this to him? His whole world had crumbled into nothing. His right hand throbbed but he didn’t feel it. There was nothing left to fight for now. Christine has left him. She gave up on him. Taking his child with her, his future.
