Chapter 6

Dev~

The room was mesmerizingly decorated. A huge hall with tall ceilings boarded beautiful paper colourings hanging till 3 feet distance from above. In the middle of the room was a huge table set, with a neatly placed silk silver cloth, having a two-storey cake on it. The cake was delightful looking, pleasing to the eyes. It was white, completely white with fresh cream on it. It looked like a pure vanilla cake, without a bit of any other flavour or any other toppings to add to its beauty. Five candles placed in the circles on the cake lit unwavering.

I mean how do they know that I am going to succeed in everything, even before completing the task. And of course, Vanilla cake is my favourite, they knew it.

Seeing the room highly, hugely decorated, I was stunned. Not only the cake, but even the room was also completely white. I don't know why but the walls had red balloons hung on them. C'mon, I do not like balloons at all and I hated the colour they were in. I loved the only black and white colours, red pisses me off.

"Hey, why are these balloons here and that too in red?" I asked terrified.

"Boss, any celebration is incomplete without balloons. Please don't keep any objections now, at least for today," Suraj spoke out.

"Balloons are mandatory? Is it a birthday party?" I retorted.

"Don't ruin our mood Boss. This is your best victory ever, so let's just celebrate," Said Mayank, disappointed.

While Raghav was my right hand, Mayank and Suraj were my left hand and Informer, respectively. There were more two members of my gang, one of them was out of town to collect the cash from the underworld don, Mahesh Shekhawat, a 34-year-old, handsome, tall, tanned man, nobody would know that he is the master of the underworld if he walks by the road, such a charmer he was. My other guy was in jail, tortured and bashed out by police and other detectives, for collecting the information regarding my whereabouts.

"Okay! Everything's fine but, where's the beer?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows.

"Boss, Everything's ready, don't worry we have the whole stock. We are gonna enjoy the night like no other," Replied Raghav, excited.

"Wait, Wait!" I obstructed their excitement.

"Now what?" Said Suraj.

"What about Himansh and Pratik? Are we going to celebrate without them? Shouldn't they also be a part of this party?" I asked.

"Boss, the show must go on. I know you miss them, even we do. But it's the right time of Celebration. By the time they will come, you must have achieved another victory, so we'll celebrate with them at that time," Explained Mayank.

"Nice assumption about me," I grinned.

Meanwhile, all this was going on, I quickly remembered about the asylum girl. What if she does any crazy act and she will be revealed in front of everyone. In my gang girls were strictly prohibited. Unfortunately, this rule was made by me, and I am the one who broke it. I think girls are the negative power to your success. If you get involved with them, you can't concentrate on your work, at least I think this way. I also had told my members not to get any girl here, or even not to look at any girl anywhere. I as my team leader had to maintain this law for the betterment of my gang.

"Let's go," They all screamed. I followed them.

A special treatment was given to me. I was made to stand in front of the cake and was told by my members to cut it. A small saw like a knife was placed on the left side of the table, covered with red satin ribbon. Oh god! Why red again? I gave a clean triangular cut on one side of the cake, blowing out the candles. They all started singing and dancing. The sound of the loudspeakers was too high, enough to burst one's ears.

Thinking about the loudspeakers, I again reminisced about the girl. Such a loud noise will threaten her. What if she screams her heart out? Even if I had tied her and taped her mouth, anger and fear are the two things that can provoke a person to do the impossible things.

I rushed towards the speakers and decreased the volume. Hearing the volume down my members stopped dancing because I had interrupted their enjoyment. I let out a sigh seeing my awkward behaviour.

"What happened boss?" Asked Mayank worriedly.

"What? Nothing's happened, you continue," I replied.

"Then why did you cut off the music?" Asked Suraj sadly.

"I have just decreased the volume and have not stopped it," I riposted.

"Boss, let us enjoy!" Raghav pleaded.

"Who says don't enjoy? Just keep the volume low. That's it," I explained.

"What's wrong with your boss? Why are you behaving so strangely today? Isn't it you who always wants loud music?"

"Yeah but.." I was interrupted by Mayank.

"Is something bothering you?" Mayank frowned.

"No! Not at all, I'm all fine. Okay, you put on the music as per the volume you want. I'll just come." I dashed out ignoring the stare they were giving me for being unusual.

Reaching my backyard, I flung opened the door unlocking it. Seeing her all asleep, the sweat formed on my forehead dried, like a breeze of air coming after the sunny weather.

I closed the door behind. Entering in, I observed her critically.

What must be the reason for her mental condition? I was thinking hard. Was she born with this or is it acquired? Did she meet with an accident or is it a result of some trauma?

One side of my head was shouting, what have I got to do with her? And the other side is screaming to know the reason. I felt like I was in a desperate need to find it. What's this? Am I changing my profession? Hell No.

I am Dev Mathur, the Dev Mathur, most wanted and dangerous don of India. The reason for my popularity was, other criminals hid from the police and had taken shelter in the underworld, staying in disguise. But for me, I am the only one who roams freely like the lion in the jungle, despite that no one can track me.

Even if they have Pratik in their custody, he would die, but not reveal a single thing about me. That's how we are born, independent, carefree, fierce, raging and rouged.

But this girl was making me go blue with her illness. How can such a beauty go through such brutal conditions? So innocent, So warm and petite. It made my brain think twice. Sometimes God does wrong things, like one to this one.

I thought she must have been awake because of the loudspeakers. But no, she was in the deepest sleep, the most peaceful sleep, which I had not slept in for many years. Watching her sleep is undoubtedly the most beautiful thing I have ever watched.

She was fresh, pure and so delicate.

Getting my heartbeat back on track, by seeing that everything's normal, I turned towards the door to open it.

"What are you guys doing here?" I asked furiously.

"Can we ask you that question boss?" Retorted Raghav.

"What do you want to know?" My anger was steaming.

"About the backyard."

"What's with the backyard?" I asked, tensed.

"That's what we are asking, what's with it? A few minutes earlier I saw you here when you came and now again you are here, why?" Said Raghav.

"You can't ask me that Okay," I shouted, showing my index finger.

"What's there inside? Are you hiding something?" Enquired Mayank.

"I said nobody would dare ask me that, have you not understood? Get out of my way you rascals. And nobody would dare open this door, you know otherwise. You know my anger, all the bullets will be in your chest," I got away frustrated by their questions.

"What's wrong with him? He is not like that," Said Suraj.

"We all know he is hot-tempered, but for the backyard? Meh! This thing is not digesting man," Added Mayank.

"We'll have to look into this. Something's there in here, which he doesn't want us to see. Mayank, Suraj, let's make a plan on how we can get it," Thought Raghav.
