CHAPTER 12: DREAMS OR NIGHTMARES

OLIVIA’S P.O.V

It was 10 pm and I still haven’t fallen asleep as yet. I tossed and turned, counted the sheep and stars yet I still couldn’t get a blink of sleep. And just like the devil whispers all the naughty ideas in your head, a very naughty idea popped into mine.

Getting out from my warm and comfortable bed, slipped on my bedroom shoes and shivered all the way to my closet. Putting on a warm nightgown, I grabbed my phone, turning on the phone torch, I exited my room.

Going down the hallway, I stopped at Austin’s room. “Austin?” I knocked on his door, calling out to him. “Mmmm, what?” he groaned, his voice sleepy yet sexy. “I’m thirsty,” I said. “Then go down and get some water from the kitchen” he groaned. “Okay,” I said. That’s checks two of my boxes! The first box confirms that Austin is in his room. The second box, telling me that he is too tired to worry about anything and leave his bed. With this, I knew that the coast is clear and I can carry out my plan in peace…

Slowly and carefully I crept through the house until I reached two big wide white polished doors. Turning the handles of them, I was relieved that it wasn’t locked. I opened the doors carefully, squeezed my eyes shut and I bit my tongue hoping that there is no alarm, to my luck the doors were fully opened and I didn’t hear any siren go off. In relief, I opened my eyes and then frowned. “S***” I whispered to myself, seeing the big ballroom of the West wing.

I could be so stupid sometimes, honestly, I can’t deal with myself. With an IQ of 98%, I still get confused with my directions.

I closed the doors, gently, hoping that the sound doesn’t wake up the Hunter’s. Waiting in the lobby for a minute, I saw no lights switched on and didn’t hear any noises from upstairs, which meant that they were all still sound asleep. Knowing this, I crept my way in the opposite direction of the ballroom.

I came across another pair of big brown polished oak doors, like that of the ballroom. Turning the handles on these, my luck struck again as they were unlocked. I pushed the heavy door enough to squeeze myself through, then I gently closed it, afraid that if I leave it open, it may bang shut. However, I was not satisfied with my investigation as yet when I ended up in another passage. There were fire torches on the wall, each set up to brighten up the path when they are lit, on the other side was just glass, separating the passage from the indoor garden. The passage was long as it curved past the indoor garden. I walked slowly through the passage until I came to another door. This one had a unique design, which I could swear that I saw before, however, I can’t remember where. So intrigued by the design that I didn’t notice that this door did not have a handle until I tried to reach for it and found nothing. I turned my phone torch on and looked around me for a keypad or something that may open the door, but just ended up irritated when didn’t find a keypad either. “How do you open this open Austin?” I whispered to myself, biting my bottom lip, I thought hard. I gentle pushed on it, thinking that if it doesn’t have a handle or a keypad then it most probably is not locked, but it didn’t open. I pushed harder and it still didn’t budge. Eventually, I took a few steps back and ran into the door, using my whole body strength and pushing the door with my shoulder, but I just ended up putting both my hands over my mouth to prevent me from crying out in pain as it felt like I ran into a wall. After getting myself together and making sure that I didn’t move my shoulder out of its socket, I grabbed onto the edges of the design and tried to slide it …but the door still wouldn’t open.

Giving up, I turned around and started to head back to my room, when I felt the intense feeling of being watched just like when I was in that club. I looked through the glass into the garden but it seemed clear, I walked on further but couldn’t seem to shake off the feeling, looking again into the garden, it seemed clear, then I looked through the garden into the other side of the house and saw two golden orbs looking straight at me.

If I was running a race, I would have definitely won! I sprinted for my life! It was almost like my soul was running before my body like in the cartoons or my feet were running before my legs! Running out of the North wing, I ran up the stairs not even looking back, too afraid that if I do I might trip and the ghost or whatever that was might catch me. I ran all the way, past Austin’s room and into mine, shutting the door behind me, I quickly turned around to see that my room is clear and safe.

Switching off the main light, I switched on my bedside lamp hoping that it will draw less attention to my room and that ‘thing’ whatever it was would leave me alone.

Opening my diary I recorded every single detail of tonight’s events. In case I die, I wanted my father and Dawn to know that my death was not an accident and that I was murdered by that alien, zombie, ghost, demonkind of thing…whatever it was. At least there are three strong men in this house who might protect me and keep me safe.

On the other hand, I just realized that whatever I saw did not chase after me. What if I imagined the whole thing? Did I really see it or was it my tired but excited mind playing tricks on me? After all, I was already on edge for exploring the part of the house which I was forbidden from. Feeling safe in my room, I finally fell asleep…

‘I walked in the passage, the symbol on the door was glowing red, behind it I could hear music, it seemed to be a sacred song. I felt so connected to it, I felt like I belonged…

Suddenly there is darkness but I see the outline of a man walking towards me, as he gets closer I recognize that it is Austin. I try to speak to him but he walks right past me, the music turns into a hymn and I see my mother. She is looking as beautiful as ever before, wearing a white dress and running her fingers through her hair, I was going to approach her when I saw a black beastly creature attack her…limp and motionless she lay on the ground, her throat bleeding as she took her last breath’

Saved by my alarm clock, I woke was sweating and panting from this terrible nightmare, I looked at the clock and it was 6 am already. My eyes were still heavy with sleep but I was grateful that the nightmare was over!
