Chapter 42

Blair laughed heartily at Amelia's words, not caring for the pain it was causing her. He said it as if it was something amusing, as if Augustra's pain meant nothing. Amelia was taken aback by his callousness and her face began to flush with anger. She could feel her tears welling up, but she fought them back, refusing to show any emotion.

"You don't understand," she said quietly. "He loves me and I love him. He would do anything to keep me safe and if he thought I was dead, it would hurt him more than you can imagine."

Blair scoffed at Amelia's words, not caring to understand her point of view. He waved his hand dismissively, as if her words meant nothing. "It's better for us if he thinks you're dead, at least until we can attack. He'll be far more vulnerable that way. Surely, you can see the logic in that," he said.
