CHAPTER 61

I get pulled away from the window by Nathan. I struggle to get back to it.

Nathan responds, "Just your mate eager for some attention," and resumes his game of snatch and release.

He pulls me back, and I release the window frame at the same moment. I slam into his chest, and he stumbles back a step, so he couldn't have been expecting it.

His lips curve into that loathed, mocking smirk when he sees me.

Perish.

I use the glass shard in my right hand to cut at his throat. I get blood all over my face. There's so much of it that I momentarily lose my vision. But just momentarily.

He lets go of me and staggers backward by one step, holding his palm against the jagged gash in his throat.

I look at him, my heart racing so fast that I don't even realize I'm not shouting until I hear someone swear.

"Aw shucks."

By chance. Chance sounds like that.

With a look in his piercing blue eyes that I have never seen before, Nathan looks back at me.

Unexpected.
