Chapter 2

Maggie couldn't take it anymore. The constant whispers and stares, the gossip and judgement, it was all too much.

She knew she had to get out of that small town and start anew somewhere else, where nobody knew her name or her past.

Maggie sat at the kitchen table in her small apartment, staring at a map of the United States spread out before her.

She had saved up enough money from her job at the bar to make a fresh start, but she wasn't sure where to go.

As she traced her finger along the map, her eye was drawn to a small dot in the middle of the desert: Las Vegas.

Maggie had never been to Vegas, but she had heard stories. It was a place where people went to reinvent themselves, to start over and leave their past behind. Maybe it was the perfect place for her.

The decision made, Maggie wasted no time. She packed up her few belongings, said goodbye to the few friends she had made in town, and hit the road.

It was a long drive, but Maggie didn't mind. She watched the miles roll by, the desert landscape changing from brown to red to orange.

As she approached Vegas, she felt a sense of excitement building in her chest.

The city was unlike anything she had ever seen.

Bright lights and neon signs lit up the night sky, and the sounds of slot machines and music filled the air. It was overwhelming, but also exhilarating.

Werewolves were also common and co existed with humans just like in New York. Maggie knew she wouldn’t have a hard time blending in.

Maggie found a cheap apartment on the outskirts of town, and she quickly set about making a new life for herself.

She got a job as a waitress at a diner and started exploring the city, making new friends and experiencing all that Vegas had to offer.

Miggie didn't forget about the baby growing inside of her, of course.

She visited a doctor and made sure she was taking care of herself and her child. But for the first time in a long time, she felt like she could breathe again.

She wasn't the object of ridicule and shame anymore. She was just Maggie, a woman trying to make her way in the world.

As she looked out over the glittering lights of the city, Maggie knew she had made the right decision. She didn't know what the future held, but she was ready to face it, no matter what.

Maggie lay on the hospital bed, her hand tightly gripping the sheets laid on the bed. She rode out another contraction. Sweat beaded on her forehead as she focused on her breathing, trying to stay calm and focused.

Beside her, the doctor and nurse worked swiftly, monitoring the twins' heartbeats and making sure everything was progressing smoothly. Maggie had always known that carrying twins would be a challenge, but she was determined to see it through.

After what felt like an eternity, the moment finally arrived. Maggie gave one last push and with a cry, the first baby emerged into the world, a tiny, wrinkled boy with a shock of dark hair.

The doctor quickly cut the umbilical cord and handed the baby to the nurse, who whisked him away to be cleaned and checked over.

Maggie barely had time to catch her breath before the second contraction hit, stronger and more intense than the first.

She gritted her teeth and pushed with all her might, and with another cry, the second baby emerged, this time a little girl with a head of fuzzy blonde hair.

The room was filled with the sound of cries and the bustle of activity as the nurse worked to clean and swaddle the twins, while the doctor tended to Maggie, helping her deliver the afterbirth and making sure she was comfortable.

Finally, with the twins settled in their mother's arms, Maggie looked down at them, her hearts swelling with love and pride.

She lay on the hospital bed, exhausted but elated. She had just given birth to a beautiful set of twins, a boy and a girl. She was alone in the room with her new bundles of joy.

As she looked at them, tears of joy streamed down her face. She reached out and held each of them in turn, marveling at their tiny fingers and toes. She knew immediately what she wanted to name them.

"You're Luke," she said to her son, stroking his soft cheek with her finger. "And you're Leah," she said to her daughter, smoothing her downy hair.

The babies stirred and whimpered a little, but otherwise remained sleeping soundly. Maggie smiled at them.

She knew there would be a lot of challenges ahead, raising two babies at the same time without much help. But in this moment, all she felt was pure love and joy for her new family.

Years had passed since the tumultuous days of Maggie's past. She had managed to rebuild her life from the ground up, creating a new haven for herself and her two children, Luke and Leah.

As the sun gently bathed the small town in warm hues, a picturesque scene unfolded.

Maggie woke up to the soft chirping of birds outside her bedroom window. Stretching her arms above her head, she let out a contented sigh.

The worries that had once plagued her existence now seemed like distant echoes, replaced by a sense of peace and fulfilment. Her journey had been long and arduous, but she had come out on the other side stronger than ever.

With a smile on her face, Maggie headed downstairs to the kitchen.

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, mingling with the scent of pancakes sizzling on the stove.

Luke and Leah, now teenagers, were eagerly setting the table, their laughter and banter filling the room.

"Good morning, Mom!" Luke exclaimed, flashing a mischievous grin. "You're just in time for breakfast!"

Maggie hugged her son tightly, feeling a surge of pride for the young man he had become. He had inherited her tenacity and zest for life, always eager to take on new challenges.

Sitting around the table, Maggie couldn't help but marvel at the family they had become. Their cozy home, filled with love and warmth, was a testament to their resilience.

Later that morning, Maggie headed to her job as a Data Analyst at a prestigious company.

She had been learning rigorously over the years, starting as an entry-level data analyst with little experience, she had spent countless hours learning and honing her skills, always pushing herself to excel over the past years.

She had left the cheap apartment she had gotten on the outskirts of town when she first came here, and the job as a waitress at a diner.

She had found her niche in the ever-evolving world of technology, harnessing the power of data to uncover valuable insights.

Her colleagues respected her expertise and valued her contributions, making her feel fulfilled and appreciated.

During her lunch break, Maggie met her closest friend, Sarah, at a nearby café. Sarah had been her confidante and pillar of support throughout the years since she got here.

Maggie and Sarah sat in a cozy corner of the bustling company cafeteria, plates of sandwiches and salads before them.

The midday rush was in full swing, with colleagues hurrying to grab a quick bite before returning to their desks.

"So, how's work been for you, Sarah?" Maggie asked, taking a bite of her sandwich.

Sarah sighed, shaking her head. "It's been hectic, as usual. But I can't complain. I love what I do, and the team I work with is fantastic."

Maggie smiled, knowing how much Sarah valued her job as a Marketing Manager. Sarah had always been passionate about the industry, and her expertise was widely respected.

"You know, Maggie," Sarah said, a note of admiration in her voice.

"I remember when you first started here with only basic knowledge, and now look at you. Your strength and determination inspire me every day."

Maggie felt her cheeks warm at Sarah's praise. It had been a long and challenging road, but she had worked hard to get where she was.

"Thank you, Sarah," Maggie said, a note of gratitude in her voice. "It's been a journey, but I'm also proud of how far I've come."

"I'm proud of you too," Sarah said, placing a hand on Maggie's arm.

"You've shown me what true resilience looks like”.

Maggie felt a lump form in her throat at Sarah's words. With her flash of her previous life coming to her core.

She and Sarah has always been supporting each other through the highs and lows. Sarah had been her rock, her sounding board, and her confidante, and Maggie knew she wouldn't have made it this far without her.

"I couldn't have done it without you, Sarah," Maggie said, her voice soft. "You've been my biggest cheerleader, and I'm grateful for that ".

Sarah smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "That's what friends are for, Maggie. We’re there for each other up, no matter what"

Maggie nodded, feeling a sense of peace wash over her. It wasn't just about the job,or the pay, it was about the people who made the journey worthwhile. And Sarah was at the forefront of those.

“Have you heard of who’s in town”? Sarah asked

“Who”? Maggie asked, looking lost.
