Chapter 23: Dilemma

My forehead furrowed instinctively after I unlocked the wooden lockbox, only to find nothing inside but a folded piece of paper.

With cautious curiosity, I retrieved the paper and turned it over, revealing my real name written on it, ‘Ashley’.

I held my breath while my hands slightly trembled as I began to unfold the paper. I couldn’t explain it, but I felt anxious about the content of the letter.

Then, my eyes noticed the date inscribed at the top. It indicated that Angela had written it the night before her flight for her upcoming surgery.

My heart hammered in my chest as I began to read the letter.

‘My Beloved Ashley,

As I put these words on paper, my heart aches with emotions that are beyond the reach of mere letters. It is with a heavy heart that I write to you today and the words I write may be the last you hear from me.
