At the mention of Madame Agnes, Mr. Jones hesitated. He knew better than to cross her, as the consequences could be severe. With a shudder of fear, he quickly ordered his men, "Don't touch him."

Approaching the young man with a falsely friendly smile, Mr. Jones said, "Sir,"

The young man chuckled and replied, "Come with me. Madame Agnes wants to see you."

Mr. Jones dared not question why Madame Agnes had sent for him. Sheepishly following the young man, his heart racing, he was the only one taken to the mansion.

Butler Mark led him into the presence of Madame Agnes, and Mr. Jones lowered his head, not daring to look directly at her. In his heart, she was like a goddess.

"Jones, I hear you are interested in marrying Margret Owen and taking Caleb as your own," Madame Agnes spoke slowly.
