Cookies and reminisces

POV: Maddison

I had so much free time on my side, so I decided to pay my mother a visit.

I stood at her doorstep, grinning from ear to ear as I pretty much pounded on the door excitedly. I could catch the smell of cookies baking inside and I couldn't wait to sample them.

Momma always makes the best cookies.

"Shouldn't you be at work!" Was the first thing she said, opening the door and putting her hands on her hips, staring at me with a mock accusatory frown.

"Wow," I deadpanned. "You can at least try to sound excited to see me, mum." I huffed, folding my arms, or at least, trying my best to fold my hands with the plastic containers in my hands, washed and air dried from the last time she made side dishes and dumplings for me to take home.

Her face broke into a grin and she pulled me into an ecstatic hug. "Of course I'm excited to see you, Maddie! You never come visiting anymore," she pouted childishly, releasing me from the hug to give me a once over.
