Chapter 33

The air leaves King Laurin's body. He tries to call for help but no sound can get past the water filling his mouth. All he hears is his own gurgled cries for help, echoing in his ears.

When he lets himself fall through Charot's frozen lake, he ended up in a river’s raging rapids. Millions of gallons of water push him under the surface and keep him there. The struggle for survival has begun and he is being dragged down, deeper and deeper. His body hits sharp rocks in the turbulent waters that tear up large flesh wounds along his legs, staining the water red around him. He tries to grab on to anything, but everything flashes by at breakneck speed and his fingers can't hold on. He's got to get up. Laurin is immortal, but even as immortal, you don't want to be trapped under millions of gallons of water for decades.

Fight. I have to fight.

He kicks with his arms and legs, until every ounce of strength leaves his muscles. The water pushes him downwards
