Andres had been gone for a while and I was beginning to wonder if his enemies had gotten to him before me. Miguel had refused to expand that cryptic sentence he had made about Andres’ father beating him to a pulp. I was surprised at how desperately I wanted to hear that story or anything about Andres because I realized how little I knew about him

“What kind of person was he as a child?” I asked

Miguel stared at me like he was sure I was losing it but then sighed theatrically.

“Andres was a soft child who looked more like his mother than he did his father. He had a brother…”
