Chapter 11

Coming into work for the new week, I had a pep in my step. I'd gotten yelled at by my dad, forgotten my aunt's birthday and got yelled at for it by my mom but through my ordeal, Jesse's smile had kept me in a happy haze.

I was finally breaking through his walls. All I really wanted was the information he had, at least that's what I told myself.

So why did it bother me so much when I walked in and there he was talking and laughing with the damn receptionist? The two-timing piece of – no. I wasn't going to be that person. I took a deep breath and exhaled all the negative emotions and wordlessly walked past them.

"Morning miss Reynolds."

His deep voice resonated in my chest, stopping me in my tracks.

"Good morning," I said, turning to give him a curt smile and nodding to the receptionist, before continuing on my way to the elevator.

"The retreat was pretty fun right? Ashley here was just telling me how much fun she had."

Of course her name was Ashley, I thought, rolling my eyes.
