CHAPTER 42: NIGHTMARES COMING TRUE

XANDER’S P.O.V

Half a bottle of my whiskey cradled me to sleep as I tilted my head back on the chair that I was sitting on.  The fire crackled and the sound of the rain was like a lullaby as I was drawn into the darkness and away from the pain.

My hand was wrapped tightly around the gun which I held. The man that I shot coughed out blood as he groaned in pain, his hand pressed hard on the hole that my bullet has made on his chest, he fought for his life as he tried not to bleed to death but his bright blue eyes grew duller and duller by the second, eventually closing. He was no longer struggling, he was no longer fighting for his life, he was no longer moving as he looked peacefully asleep...passing on his suffering to me. Suddenly those bright blue eyes opened again, he began to struggle and groan in pain…he tossed and turned fighting to survive once again. I sat next to him, my heart heavy with guilt but I didn’t know what to do or how to help him.
